VLC Player - Firefox plugin Problem - Remove VLC Plugin
I love VLC Media Player... It plays almost any type of video and is super lightweight. A while ago I noticed that I was using a fairly old version of the player and decided to update it.
So, during the installation, I noticed the option for Mozilla Plugin. I though, great.. VLC + Firefox... this should be awesome...But not quite.
I didn't like the way it handled the playing of videos. WMV's loaded up with text saying "[no video]" yet, if I waited long enough, the video would load up and play, but I had no player controls. MPG, wouldn't play at all...so I had to play around in the settings, and that became a mess, where the MPG files would download to my computer via Firefox, and then play in a separate Quicktime video. This was clunky and annoying.
Also, while playing the WMVs, it would occasionally freeze up and crash Firefox. I looked around everywhere for a solution to this problem... but couldn't find it. I just wanted to restore my Firefox defaults.. they way it played MPGs in the browser, and launched WMP for WMV files.. I can live with that.
Finally, I just uninstalled VLC, and checked the box to remove my preferences. This removed the association with Firefox, and everything went back to normal. I downloaded VLC again, and didn't install the plugin this time.
Annoying problem but it was solved the old fashioned way - reinstallation.
