Getting Started with Adobe Flex and Adobe Air
Now that my graduation is nearing, I have started thinking about my honours project. I knew I wanted to study something regarding field of user interfaces, but I wasn't sure how. At first, I was going to do a study on what makes a user interface good vs bad, but that was too easy, and I had already studied that in one of my classes. I wanted to learn something new and I think I may have found that.
It is not a direct study of user interfaces, but rather the direction applications are heading, and the way user interfaces are evolving. Adobe Flex will be a way for me to convey that. Flex incorporates all the aspects of a Rich Internet Application along with drag and drop functionality (Flex builder) that will help speed up my development time.
So, before I submitted my proposal to a professor, I though I'd do some research and make sure this is feasible and at the same time challenging.
I've found lots of resources, and I'll continue posting them here.
Flex Cookbook - Very helpful website from Adobe that houses tons of examples with explanations and clear instructions. Most of the code is drag and drop so if you're in a crunch and need to use a certain functionality, just copy and paste the code.
Flex.org - Official Flex Blog - Tons of info - Forums and community to ask and learn.
Flex Wiki Page - To find out what Flex is, isn't and it's evolution.
Flex and PHP - A small tutorial that gives you a great intro on integrating Flex and PHP. But the article is getting a bit old, so everything described is not exactly how it works in Flex 3.
Over the Rhine Video Tutorials - Good beginner tutorials to get started with Flex and understanding it's state based programming. Also helps you get familiar with the Flex Builder application.
