One of the biggest stories circulating the blogospehre today is the 'mistake' that Google made, was to prematurely announce it's release of a browser - known as Google Chrome, which will compete against Firefox, IE and Safari.
Something that Google had started with Android, is now moving to the PC...Just another advertising platform for themselves. One where Google is the default search engine, and the homepage by default is configured to go to Google.com. It is only a matter of time before they take on the biggest fish of them all, and announce their brand of OS. Hopefully this is not a surprise to anyone.
With the power that Google has, it has probably been eaves dropping on every Firefox forum or post that exists, in an attempt to make it 'perfect' right out of the gates. Making sure it doesn't run into the same problems that Firefox did, such as memory leaks and performance issues. But like all good things that come out of Google, it will be in beta, for a while.
To try to attempt something like this they must be counting on using the Google brand to make it more popular than Firefox, because anything with a Google stamp of approval is quality. With millions of Firefox fans out there, it will be interesting to see how Google entices them (us) to switch over. I have no reason to swtich browsers, other than shear curiosity to see what Google has cooked up. If they have the option to let me migrate bookmarks between work, laptop and home PC, then I'm sold, and I might make the switch...haha, Everyone has their sweet spot right?
To broadcast to the non-tech savvy market, they will most likely promote it on their homepage, within Gmail and other products, just like they've done so with the Google Toolbar for so long.
The auspicious date of release is September 2nd. The official website (currently a 404 page) is http://www.google.com/chrome
Stay tuned for updates...

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 13:26 Have you had a chance to give it a try yet? Oh wait.. You're a Mac user, so no chrome yet...haha. I've played around with it now, and it's fast, but with my aging computer, it looks like after opening about 5-6 tabs, everything still slows down. Not bad though.. and i love more browser real estate. I'm going to post a better review of it soon enough.
Thu, 09/04/2008 - 07:53 for posting an reaction to the Google Chrome. I was thinking that my blog is already very anti-google although I am using Gmail. Oh geez, Google is unstoppable. :P *dramatic music in the background*
