From the quick research that I did on your model AL2016WBbd - It looks like the monitor doesn't support HDCP. The PS3 has that in place for content protection. You didn't get screwed, you got what you're paying for.
If you can return it and upgrade to a monitor with HDCP you'd be all set. You will have to spend a bit more though.
You can wait for a sale at Best Buy or Circuit City, and get the Samsung 226BW for under $300 possibly. Good Luck!!
