Books to buy - Things to read - Now that I've got some spare time.
I'm not much of a book person during the better part of the year - mainly because I have enough reading from school to keep me occupied. Now that the exams are over, I've got my eye on a few books that I'd like to dive into.
I don't read novels (fiction) so most of the time I don't see the point in buying a book. If I need some information, I just Google it. It's always available and most of all, always up to date - especially when they are books about technical information that changes almost monthly.
The two books that I have my eye on are a bit on the technical side, but I am willing to pay the $25 each for the illustrations and photographs that are always in short supply online. These two books might also be ones that I would refer back to once in a while.
Both of these books have come from good reviews from the Strobist website and recommendations by David Hobby, so they are worth a read for sure – I hope.
- The first book is The Moment It Clicks - By Joe McNally. I've read snippets of it online that are available on the official website, and I like the way things are explained. Looking forward to learning some lighting techniques from the pros.
- The second book is Minimalist Lighting: Professional Techniques for Location Photography by Kirk Tuck. Another book recommended by Strobist.com. Apparently a great how-to lighting with small strobes. Living in Canada, this book comes out a few days after the US release, so I'll be waiting for that.
Having checked out the priced on Chapters.ca, and Amazon.ca, I'd save quite a bit of money buying online with Amazon, so I'll keep my eye on that when I decide to make the purchase sometime later this week.
Yes, yes, reading lots of books about photography, but still no portfolio. I'm working on it, and promise to have it up soon.
